- Commercial Telecom Business Opportunities.
Who Should Attend?

- If you are attending UTC TELECOM 2009 from outside the United States, this workshop has been designed especially for you – to add extra value – to make your long trip to our meeting just a little more valuable than you expected – and to provide a unique networking opportunity.

Throughout the world, utilities and governments have seen the value of building more intelligence into the grid to better manage scarce energy resources, facilitate access to alternative forms of energy, and ensure greater security for this critical resource. Some governments are taking a strong leadership role while others are just now catching up. This season will feature perspectives from different parts of the world sharing how each are making a shared vision of smart energy grids a reality.

Private Wireless Challenges
Marcos Albagli, Senior Consultant, Petrobras (Brazil) Presentation
Phil Kidner, Chief Executive Officer, TETRA Association (UK) Presentation
Many utilities outside North America long ago abandoned or relegated to second-tier status private radio systems in favor of ubiquitous commercial cellular systems. Today, however, with security and reliability concerns paramount, interest in private systems has renewed. This session will feature utility experts explaining why private wireless is making a global resurgence among utilities.

How and why should an electric, gas or water utility commercialize its telecommunications experience and assets? Today, utilities are once again looking at the commercial telecom ventures with more practical eyes. Whether offering carriers' carrier services, retail voice and data services, and/or support for commercial wireless carriers – utilities are back in the commercial telecom game worldwide. The session will focus on why utilities are doing this and how it benefits them, their communities and their customers.
