WiFi, WiMAX – Why Utilities?

In recent years, the telecom industry has seen an explosive growth in unlicensed, WiFi broadband deployment, and it is now on the cusp of both licensed and unlicensed WiMAX deployment. Critical infrastructure entities are no strangers to this technology, and continue to look into its possibilities. Speakers in this session will discuss exciting new developments such as the CIGRE Study Committee B5 work to explore the current use of WiFi technology in high voltage electric transmission protection and automation systems; also, how WiMAX technology is driving a new set of backhaul requirements to enable a multitude of services. Speakers will explore architectures including: hybrid networks, ring, mesh, daisy chain and multi-point architectures.
